Important Topic in every organization to compliance and safety. Employees in certain occupations, including those in manufacturing, mining, chemical processing, nuclear power plant operations, municipal public services (fire, police, and emergency medical services), and others, are required to demonstrate core, basic safety behaviors to some extent. These industries contain subsets or clusters of activities that, in order to be performed properly, call for a high degree of procedural expertise and knowledge. This safeguards the general public, the environment, the business, and the workers themselves (see Cantor, 1992; Hofmann, Jacobs, & Landy, 1995).
ReplyDeleteSeveral researchers have examined general safety behaviors in various industries as part of the growing corpus of research on behavioral elements of safety (e.g., Cheyne, Cox, Oliver, & Tomas, 1998; Chhokar, 1990; Griffin & Neal, 2000; Hofmann & Stetzer, 1996; Lingard & Rowlinson, 1997;

Short but very informative piece of writing on safety and compliance, perhaps leaving ample space to develop next blogs on the subheadings! Through research it has been found that employees who perceive their jobs as safe tend to be involved in fewer accidents than employees who perceive their jobs as relatively more dangerous (Guastello & Guastello1988; Harrell, 1990; Smith et al., 1992). Employees who perceive their workplace as safe report lower levels of job-related anxiety and stress, and exposure to fewer environmental hazards (Guastello, 1992).
